Important Information Regarding UMR the New PPO Network

December 2022

Dear Participant:

Recently, the Operating Engineers Local 101 Health and Welfare Fund announced it is changing the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network for Active members, non-Medicare eligible Retirees and non-Medicare dependents. The transition from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City to UMR, a United Healthcare Company, takes effect January 1, 2023.

The Fund office, along with UMR, continues to work tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition. Therefore, the Fund wants to provide some useful information to help you plan for the upcoming change.

If you would like to determine if your current provider participates with UMR and is in the United Healthcare Choice Plus Network, please visit the UMR website. Instructions for finding a network provider are listed below.

Go to umr.com and select “Find a provider.”
Search for United HealthCare Choice Plus Network in the Provider network search box.
Click on the green “View Providers” button.

The provider directory lists network hospitals, physicians, board certifications, directions to each office, and other useful information.

UMR also has a mobile app that is available for download through the Google Play and Apple Store. It appears in the app store as: UMR Health. The UMR app allows members a simple way to manage health care benefits from the palm of your hand.

The UMR app provides members on demand access to important plan information like a digital ID card, network provider look up, claims details, and health account balances. The app provides a secure login process to keep your information safe and secure and has been designed to deliver an informative, user-friendly experience.

Member ID cards will be mailed in the next few weeks. If you encounter a situation where you may need your member ID information, you may access your plan information on the UMR website, or the mobile app. Registration is easy to do on the website or the app using your Social Security Number and group number. The Plan’s group number is 76415759.

If you are currently experiencing any complex care issues or have any complex procedures scheduled in the near future, please contact the Fund office at 816-737-5959. The Fund office staff will assist with any questions you may have regarding the treatments and the transition to UMR. The Fund office staff will work with UMR and your physician to determine if any information may be needed to ensure no disruption occurs during your treatment.

Please remember there have been no changes to the benefits you currently have. The deductible, copayments and coinsurance amounts remain the same. However, if you should have questions during this transition, please contact the Fund office for assistance.

Sincerely,

Board of Trustees
